Welcome to the Eastern Oklahoma Mensa local group web page. This is local group number 740 in region 6. Approximately 55% of our members have mailing addresses in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
This page serves as resource for local members needing information about the group and its activities. From time to time information and links may be posted regarding events not sponsored by the local group, but nevertheless likely to be of interest to a significant portion of the local membership.
The buttons below will link your browser directly to the main areas of the website.
For most of our general meetings in the last few years, we have been hosting the events in a private meeting room at Johnnie's restaurant located at about Harvard Ave. and Interstate 44. Johnnie's has closed that location. The restaurant property is being redeveloped (no, the I-44 widening project is not going to take it out), and perhaps a bit later in the year we can sample the replacement ambience. It's too early to be sure about that.
In June (Saturday, 12 June 2009), we will be meeting again in the back dining area at the "China King" restaurant located on the south side of 71st Street, just east of the intersection with Riverside Drive. The exact address is 1330 E 71st Street, and the restaurant phone number is 918-492-6888. We met there in March and it seemed to be quite well liked by those in attendance.
China King is a buffet style Chinese restaurant. The meeting area will meet our needs nicely.
Discussion group is available now for our use. Here is the link that will get you to the home page for the discussion group: Eastern Oklahoma Mensa Yahoo Discussion Group
This was set up for us by Dan Cott, our Assistant Local Secretary. Any current or past member of Eastern OK Mensa is welcome to visit and join the group. The general public can read the posts, but will generally not be admitted to the group for posting.
If you want to join the group, you will need a Yahoo ID. Many of you may already have one, in which case the simplest thing to do is just use it. For those needing a Yahoo ID, setup is free, easy, and fast.
Gifted Children Activities:
Through the combined efforts of our group's Gifted Childrens Coordinator (Lorna Stein), and some members of the Central OK Mensa group (T.J. Lundeen and Louanne Duckworth), there's been some significant effort to produce some programs that are of particular interest to young Mensans and to Mensa families with children.
MAY 1ST AND 2ND, LAKE ARCADIA CAMPING
Come camping with Mensans! Starting on Friday after 2 pm, Mensa kids and families will be enjoying sun, surf, and sea -- at least the Oklahoma version of it. We WILL be having waves, weenies and water. Bring your own tent, RV, or lawn lounge and camp out under the stars with your cool Mensa Buds. Bring eats, drinks, and gear, and come have a blast! Lake Arcadia is a nice and clean park. Fees are $24 per camp site (which includes electricity and group water, for those families who are not Swiss with a last name of Robinson), and making this even more economical is that two camping units of any kind are allowed per campsite. Example: one RV and one tent, or two tents, make a campsite. All children must be accompanied for this event.
Please RSVP to Chrysinda COM GCC by April 30th at one of the following contacts so we can coordinate meeting area, possible site sharing, etc.:

MAY 30TH, TIGER SAFARI IN TUTTLE
Central Oklahoma Mensa is ready for their all-ages ... WIGWAG (Where I'd Go With A Group). Lions and tigers and bears, oh my. Saturday, May 30th we'll be meeting at 11 am at the entrance of Tiger Safari in Tuttle, Oklahoma. And we’re all invited!
The people at Tiger Safari have given Mensa a terrific group deal and an exclusive opportunity not open to the public ordinarily. We'll have access to all the feeding stations (normally an additional $5.00), a hayride (yep, usually this costs extra, too -- but we got it all included), all the animals AND they'll bring out animals for us that the public doesn't normally get to interact with for just $8.00 per person. Considering all the freebies, this is about 1/2 price -- plus you get to hang out with all your cool Mensa friends, too.
Bring a picnic lunch, and we'll Feast among the Ferrets. Picnic with the Porcupines. Chow down with Kinkajou. Contact Chrysinda COM GCC chrysinda@gmail.com so we know to wait for you at the gate! We must go as a group to use the discount. But we won't wait long. The animals are ready.

Local Admissions Testing:
Do you know somebody who you think might enjoy joining Mensa, but for one reason or another cannot locate prior evidence? If that's the case, an easy and economical way to proceed is for that person to participate in a local testing session. Our local group offers testing every month. While it's not required that a potential test taker provide prior notice before attending a proctored test session, it's a good idea. The testing is done in the small meeting room at the public library in Broken Arrow, OK (300 West Broadway). Since there is a space limitation, advance notice that somebody is coming to sit for a test will guarantee them a seat.
For all the details on local proctored testing, as well as the current schedule of dates, please view our Testing Information page.
